My Method...
I use the Traditional Chinese Method with a bit of a twist when I process the first mother. The steam includes slices of fresh lemon and ginger root, cayenne pepper, frankincense, and myrrh.
The three wise men of biblical tale were onto something bringing Mary frankincense and myrrh upon the birth of her baby!
These two sacred resins have been used for centuries as amazing postpartum healers - they move qi, reduce swelling and inflammation, and support emotional healing. It only makes sense to include them in this beautiful, ritualistic processing of the first mother.
The placenta is our baby's first mother.
In modern birth we often don’t pay much mind to her birth - it’s all about getting that baby out right? The first mother deserves honor and reverence, and she is always treated with such when I process one within my home. She did a holy job nurturing and protecting your baby - I want to celebrate that!
“The placenta, the root of your origin, is the conductor that unites you with your mother and serves as the control panel of the womb-ship that sustains you until you are born.”
— Robin Lim, Placenta; the Forgotten Chakra

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Every mother’s postpartum journey is unique, and your experience with placenta medicine will be too.
Some women find that their capsules bring a welcomed boost of energy or mood support. Other experiences can include a boost in milk supply, better iron stability, and increased vitality.
Rarely reported side effects are restlessness, difficulty sleeping, or increased ‘jitters’ or irritability. If that happens, it’s okay to reduce your dosage or take a short pause before trying again. Your body is wise—let it guide you. This medicine is here to support, not overwhelm.

Your placenta will be processed lovingly in my home, within a dedicated and sanitized space.
My many years working in kitchens have informed my process on safe handling of raw material.
Every work surface is thoroughly cleaned before and after each process, and all tools and equipment are washed in hot, soapy water and disinfected with CaviCide, a hospital-grade cleanser. I change gloves frequently throughout the encapsulation process.

I use a modified version of the Traditional Chinese Method (TCM) for preparation. This gentle method begins by rinsing the placenta and steaming it slowly over a pot infused with fresh ginger, lemon, cayenne pepper, frankincense, and myrrh—ingredients chosen for their warming, cleansing, and energetically protective qualities. After steaming, your placenta is dehydrated, ground, and encapsulated to create a medicine that supports warmth, restoration, and strength in your postpartum journey.
The tincture is made using a small portion of raw placenta and steeped in 190-proof alcohol to preserve its potency and longevity.

You will receive anywhere from 100 to 200 (or maybe more!) capsules, depending on the size of your placenta.
While the standard dosage is a helpful starting point, it’s important to listen closely to your own body and adjust as needed.
Standard dosage is two capsules, three times per day, for the first two weeks postpartum. Starting with the third week, reduce the dosage to one or two capsules per day. Continue for six weeks or until your capsules run out.
It is recommended to take your capsules with a meal.
According to TCM principles, it is recommended that capsules are not taken if the mother is experiencing symptoms of an infection, fever, cold/ flu, or mastitis. This is due to the energetics of the placenta being warming (yang), and it is viewed that adding more warm energy to an already “warm” condition will worsen the symptoms.
-
Absolutely, yes! Cesareans, epidurals, or antibiotics do not rule out the use of placenta medicine.
By using the Traditional Chinese Method of processing, the steaming of the placenta rids it of any potential bacteria.
-
This is a powerful, shelf-stable remedy that will continue to support you long after your capsules are gone.
Tinctures take 6 weeks to formulate before they are ready for use. Store it in a cool, dark place like a cupboard, and it will remain potent for many years to come.
This medicine is especially supportive during: Times of emotional intensity or trauma, big life transitions, hormonal shifts or challenges, perimenopause and menopause.
Suggested Use:
Take 7–10 drops on the tongue, or diluted in a small amount of water or juice. At this dilution the alcohol has no intoxication effects and is less alcohol than cough medicine contains.

I recommend booking ahead of time so your due date is held on my calendar and I’m ready to care for your placenta when the time comes. After birth, your partner, midwife, or support person can simply send me a quick text to let me know your placenta is ready. I do my best to pick up the same day, though occasionally it may be the following morning depending on timing. Until I arrive, your placenta can be safely stored in a doubled ziplock bag on ice or in the refrigerator.
-
Rarely, but yes. If your placenta is sent to pathology for any reason, I will be unable to process it. Also a diagnosis of Chorioamnionitis (infection of the placenta) would rule out the ability to encapsulate. Lastly, an improperly stored placenta will not be able to be encapsulated. Your placenta should be stored in the fridge for no more than 5 days, or in the freezer for no more than 6 months.
